surf life saving club
a legacy laying in wait
These are the remnants of a previous era that is still intact and ready for change. The born free generation is eager and ready to take this on and cultivate their own Weskus Surf culture as a contribution to the future. Surfing is now an Olympic sport, it has multiple disciplines in and out of waves for everyone to be included within the network of a surf lifesaving club that is run and shaped by the people who live in Saldanha.
10 year development plan
Our 10 year development plan will fold out through this building. The infrastructure is designed to house and sustain a community surf life saving club with multiple facilities for swim training and swim galas like an Architectural Amphitheatre with wheelchair access from the bottom of the pool to the top of the watch tower. The ocean front of the building houses space for a rescue boat and/or jetski and a patrol car and/or quadbike. There is no reason why there is no use for these facilities, the "danger" of Dangerbay is no more dangerous than that of Llundudno in South Africa nor Waimea Bay in Hawaii or Puerto Escondido in Brazil. However the same threat all these places face is alcohol abuse and a drinking culture without any opposition and that is part of why we want to bring a surf culture as a counter to the current destructive one that plagues the West Coast.

surfing
Potential for platforms out side of surf life saving but still building towards surfing is to have a surf shop with a shaping bay for ding repairs and and annual surf competitions to add to the national surf calendar and to bring more surfers and outside capital to the empty West Coast waves. To sustain a surf club, this has to be part of the basic support structure to host life saving and surfing competitions. The surf culture is exactly what the youth of Saldanha Bay Municipal area needs to counter the long list of social and domestic issues. With proven results in similar social setups around the world, we know it works because surfing is now part of the Olympics and have multiple world championships for all the different styles of riding waves from longboarding to parasurfing, from youth to masters.
